JEFFERSON WAR NICKEL FULL YEAR SET: 1942 1943 1944 1945 (35% Silver 56% Copper)
 
Up for sale, we have a wonderful opportunity for those getting their feet wet with JUNK SILVER! Junk Silver is growing in popularity among the stacking and collecting community and can come in the form of many types of silver such as 90% silver quarter and dimes as well as 40% half dollars. Another form of junk silver that, in our view, is often slept on are war time nickels! These nickels were produced only for a very short period of time during the World War II (WWII) era and were mostly recalled after the war. During the war, the military was in dire need of nickel and so the US Mint decided to change the formula of war-time nickels produced between 1942-1945 to contain an alloy of 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese. These coins were easily distinguishable by the various mint marks (P, D, and S) being placed ABOVE the Monticello on the reverse of the coin (unlike on the side where it was featured on non-war-time nickels). We are happy to be able to kick start your war nickel collection by providing you with a circulated example of each war-time nickel type from each year (1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945) for a total of 11 coins. In 1942, war-time nickels were produced by the Philadelphia (P) and San Francisco (S) whereas the 1943-1945 war-time nickels containing silver were produced by the Philadelphia (P), San Francisco (S), and Denver (D) mint.
 
The coins you will receive are in varying circulated and ungraded condition. The coins depicted are an example of but may not be the exact coins you will receive. You may receive coins in better or slightly more tarnished condition. All coins will exhibit extensive tarnishing consistent with their age including but not limited to toning/discoloration, scratches/smudges/nicks/chips, fading, and other similar blemishes.
